Many bands have taken a stab at Pink Floyd's classic "Wish You Were Here" over the years. Most recently, Avenged Sevenfold has released their cover as the last bit of expansion on their album, The Stage. During a recent interview with Toni Gonzalez, host of Loudwire Nights, vocalist M. Shadows discussed the song and how he feels their cover was timed perfectly as the world is in a state of crisis.
“Our world is at a complete breaking point in my opinion, right now," Shadows explained. "Not only with the hurricanes, but possible nuclear war and what’s going on … we have a president that tweets all day to another dictator across the world who has nuclear weapons. It’s insane. And then you’ve got so many things happening in the news daily.”
“This song was going to come out regardless, but it just turns out the timing in my mind is perfect because people really need to start coming together and stop being so divisive over opinions or over things we say," he continued. "We’ve got to be together in some way and hopefully we can do that. It’s a sad time and a tough time and hopefully this song can bring those feelings home and hopefully change people’s perspective."
Avenged Sevenfold have expanded The Stage with several cover tracks, currently only available on streaming services, such as Spotify. However, Shadows and company will be releasing a deluxe version of The Stage with the cover tracks, as well as seven live tracks. The deluxe version will be available on December 15th. Avenged Sevenfold will also be on tour over the winter months in the U.S. and Canada.
